This article is the result of a collaboration with Marianne Guille (Universit\u00e9 Paris 2), Nathalie Lazaric (CNRS, GREDEG) and Val\u00e9rie M\u00e9rindol (Paris School of Business). It is part of a special issue of the journal, coordinated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/Julien_Malizard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Julien Malizard<\/a> researcher at the Defence Economics Chair.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The <strong>structural modifications<\/strong> within the <strong>french innovation system<\/strong> since the late 1980s have had an impact on the role of defence contractors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The aim of this article is to analyse these changes and to understand the repositioning of French defence companies within the European defence industry. <strong>National Innovation System<\/strong> (SNI), on the basis of an analysis of their <strong>R&amp;D behaviour<\/strong> on a <strong>long period (1987-2010).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The article shows that French defence companies remain <strong>major players<\/strong> in the NIS and have responded to these changes by <strong>adapting financing<\/strong> of their R&amp;D activities and research priorities, or by deploying innovative <strong>new capacities for innovation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ecodef-ihedn.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dpe_2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-6043\" src=\"https:\/\/ecodef-ihedn.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dpe_2-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jean Belin, titulaire de la Chaire \u00c9conomie de d\u00e9fense publie dans la revue Defence and Peace Economics un article intitul\u00e9: \u00ab\u00a0Defense Firms Adapting to Major Changes in the French R&amp;D Funding System\u00ab\u00a0.
