Since now <strong>more than 20 years<\/strong>, This international conference is an opportunity for economists, political scientists and other researchers from all over the world to present their work in the field of\u2019<strong>defence, security and peace economics<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">More information on <a href=\"http:\/\/ices2018.ncc.metu.edu.tr\/past-conferences\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>International Conference on Economics and Security (ICES)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/Julien_Malizard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Julien Malizard<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/Josselin_Droff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Josselin Droff<\/strong><\/a>, Researchers at <strong>Chair in Defence Economics<\/strong> are proposing a paper entitled <em>\u00abA Common Defence Policy for the European Union? A Burden Sharing Analysis<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">This contribution aims to clarify whether <strong>EU countries<\/strong> form a <strong>military alliance<\/strong> and whether the response to threats is consistent with a proportionate distribution of resources between members. To do this, the authors draw on the most recent empirical work of the <strong>alliance theory<\/strong> which aim to compare <strong>expected benefits<\/strong> at <strong>costs incurred<\/strong>. In addition to the budgetary dimension, which is generally the point of view adopted in the literature, the authors also take into account the innovation dimension (R&amp;D budget), the capability dimension (equipment budget) and the operational dimension (force projection). By combining all these dimensions, the indicators are then representative of the entire <strong>defence production\u00ab continuum\u00bb<\/strong>. This <strong>empirical work<\/strong> is based on a<strong> European Defence Agency (EDA) database<\/strong>, on the <strong>2005-2014 period<\/strong>. The results show that the EU tends to behave <strong>as an alliance<\/strong> on dimensions <strong>personnel and troops deployed<\/strong> but not on R&amp;D spending, equipment or defence budgets as a whole. The EU's behaviour is <strong>stable over time<\/strong> over the period studied.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/Elisa_Darriet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Elisa Darriet<\/strong><\/a>, Researcher at the <strong>Chair in Defence Economics<\/strong> and <strong>LEMMA (Univ. Paris 2)<\/strong>, presents an article entitled <em>\u00abCitizen Perception of Defense &amp; Willingness to Pay\u00bb<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The aim of this article is to analyse the <strong>social representations of Defence<\/strong> as well as <strong>perception of the military budget<\/strong> in <strong>French students<\/strong>. Based on the literature, the author hypothesises the existence of a difference in representation among students according to their gender and their \u00abdegree of commitment\u00bb. This <strong>degree of commitment<\/strong>t refers directly to the desire expressed by some of the participants to <strong>join the army<\/strong>, of <strong>join the military and\/or civic reserves<\/strong>. Analysis of the results allows us to define a social representation of defence centred around the words <strong>\u00abThese include \u00bbarmy\u00ab, \u00bbprotection\u00ab and \u00bbsecurity\".<\/strong> In addition, the results indicate a <strong>difference in perception and distribution<\/strong> according to different budget headings (innovation, equipment, etc.) according to the characteristics of the participants (gender and commitment).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Julien Malizard<\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencespo.fr\/cevipof\/fr\/chercheur\/friederike-richter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Friedericke Richter<\/strong> <\/a>(Science Po Paris) present an article entitled \u00ab\u00a0<em>Analysing &amp; comparing - defence outputs - over time: A methodological Nightmare?<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The aim of this article is to analyse and compare defence production, with a particular focus on the<strong> defence budget<\/strong>. This work involves <strong>study the various possible sources<\/strong> and highlight certain <strong>methodological difficulties<\/strong> (definition, missing data, data revisions, defence inflation, conversion and purchasing power parity), which require particular attention if you wish to <strong>make comparisons<\/strong>.
