This article is entitled <em>\u00ab\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/full\/10.1080\/10242694.2018.1488371\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">French Arms Exports and Intrastate Conflicts: An Empirical Investigation<\/a><\/em>\u00a0\u00bband co-written with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/Cecile_Fauconnet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>C\u00e9cile Fauconnet<\/strong><\/a> (ENSTA Paristech) and <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/antpietri\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Antoine Pietri<\/strong> <\/a>(IRSEM) and will be published in the magazine's special issue on French issues.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Summary:<\/strong><br \/>\nFrance is one of the world's leading exporters of war materiel. These <strong>exports<\/strong> are seen as a <strong>an essential complement to public procurement<\/strong> for the French defence industry, but also as an important<strong> foreign policy leverage.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The aim of this article is to study the <strong>consequences of french arms exports<\/strong> <strong>on the intensity of civil conflicts in buyer countries<\/strong>. The most recent literature on conflicts is used. A difficulty arises in the statistical treatment of periods of peace: it may be complete for countries that have never experienced conflict, but it may also be incomplete when a period of peace is observed between two periods of conflict.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The results obtained are in line with previous studies. French arms exports are tending to <strong>reduce the intensity of civil conflicts<\/strong> while exports from the rest of the world have the opposite effect. This result is r<strong>obuste to specification changes<\/strong> of the model. Two explanations have been put forward: the relatively rigorous selection of French customers and the type of equipment, which is more defensive in nature.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ecodef-ihedn.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dpe_2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-6043\" src=\"https:\/\/ecodef-ihedn.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dpe_2-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Julien Malizard, chercheur \u00e0 la Chaire, publie un article dans Defence and Peace Economics.
