{"id":1169,"date":"2019-07-03T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-07-03T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ecodef-ihedn.fr\/retour-sur-la-23eme-conference-annuelle-economics-and-security-a-madrid\/"},"modified":"2020-04-09T11:02:43","modified_gmt":"2020-04-09T11:02:43","slug":"retour-sur-la-23eme-conference-annuelle-economics-and-security-a-madrid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ecodef-ihedn.fr\/en\/retour-sur-la-23eme-conference-annuelle-economics-and-security-a-madrid\/","title":{"rendered":"A look back at the 23rd annual \u00abEconomics and Security\u00bb conference in Madrid"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ecodef-ihedn.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/instituto_spain.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7188\" width=\"366\" height=\"88\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A high-level international conference<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La<strong> Chair in Defence Economics<\/strong> was represented at the<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" 23rd Economics and Security Conference (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/iugm.es\/ices2019\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong> 23rd Economics and Security Conference<\/strong><\/a> which took place in Madrid (<em>Instituto Guti\u00e9rrez Mellado<\/em>) from 26 to 28 June 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year's event was organised by <strong>Carlos Mart\u00ed Sempere<\/strong> (<em>Instituto Guti\u00e9rrez Mellado<\/em>), <strong>Paul Dunne<\/strong> (<em>University of Cape Town<\/em>) and <strong>Antonio Fonfr\u00eda Mesa<\/strong> (<em>Universidad Complutense de Madrid<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A <strong>sixty articles <\/strong>were presented on the <strong>two days<\/strong>. The <strong>quality exchanges <\/strong>have brought together <strong>specialists from all over the world <\/strong>(United States, United Kingdom, France, Canada, Spain, Germany, Greece, South Africa, Sweden, Brazil, China, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From <strong>more than 20 years<\/strong>, this<strong> annual international conference<\/strong> provides an opportunity for economists, political scientists and researchers from other disciplines from all over the world to present their work in the field of\u2019<strong>defence, security and peace economics <\/strong>(for more information on past editions of this conference, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/iugm.es\/ices2019\/past-conferences\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>click here<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For several years now, the <strong>researchers from the Economics of Defence Chair<\/strong> are taking part in this conference, which <strong>cover different research themes<\/strong> in defence and security economics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Contribution of the Chair: the sustainability of external operations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/Josselin_Droff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Josselin Droff (opens in a new tab)\">Josselin Droff<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/Josselin_Droff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Josselin Droff (opens in a new tab)\"> <\/a>and <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Julien Malizard (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/Julien_Malizard\" target=\"_blank\">Julien Malizard<\/a> <\/strong>presented a paper on <strong>sustainability of external operations<\/strong> in which France has been engaged since the late 1990s. The work follows on from an article published in 2018 in <em><strong>The Champs de Mars<\/strong><\/em> (to see the article, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"click here (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cairn.info\/revue-les-champs-de-mars-2018-1-page-377.htm?contenu=resume\" target=\"_blank\">click here<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The authors are building a database using <strong>technical availability rate in mainland France<\/strong> of French defence equipment (1997-2017 period).<\/li><li>A <strong>econometric analysis<\/strong> <em>via <\/em>a multi-level model (<em>mixed model<\/em>), shows that the intensity of external operations has a negative impact on the availability rate of all equipment over the long term.
