Jens Schlueter\/AFP<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Josselin Droff, Friederike Richter and Julien Malizard, researchers at the Chaire \u00c9conomie de D\u00e9fense - IHEDN, have published a report on the economy of defence. <a aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/le-monde-militaire-face-au-covid-19-141181\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">article in The Conversation.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This article, entitled \u00abThe military and COVID-19\u00bb, looks at the role played by <strong>defence players<\/strong> - the armed forces and the arms industry - in Europe since the beginning of the Second World War. <strong>health crisis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A range of players mobilised<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faced with the\u2019<strong>COVID-19 epidemic<\/strong>, In the first and second lines, we find cashiers, shopkeepers, teachers, police officers, industrialists, deliverymen, soldiers, firemen, carers and social workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The contribution of defence players<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The players in the <strong>military world<\/strong> have occupied a place in the <strong>managing this crisis<\/strong>. Through <strong>examples of actions<\/strong> conducted by the armed forces and the arms industry, the article compares the role played by these players, <strong>in France and four neighbouring countries <\/strong>(Germany, Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom), as part of the global strategy to combat COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fundamental questions about the \u00abmissions of the armed forces\u00bb<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on the concept of <strong>\u00abmilitary value chain\u00bb<\/strong>, the article highlights and discusses certain <strong>recurring questions in the military world<\/strong> but particularly highlighted by the current health crisis: <strong>\u00abthe \u00bbcore business\" of the armed forces<\/strong> and diversification of their missions, <strong>redeployability of assets<\/strong> specific to the armed forces (equipment, for example), <strong>size of stocks<\/strong> in crisis management and <strong>adequacy of resources<\/strong> (equipment, staff, budgets) <strong>missions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">&gt;&gt; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/le-monde-militaire-face-au-covid-19-141181\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">read the article<\/a><\/strong> &lt;&lt;<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Josselin Droff, Friederike Richter et Julien Malizard, chercheurs \u00e0 la Chaire \u00c9conomie de D\u00e9fense &#8211; IHEDN publient un article dans The Conversation.
