This thesis was awarded the<strong> Banque de France Foundation prize<\/strong> (2019).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Maxime is currently Senior Lecturer at the University of Orl\u00e9ans. His current research focuses on theoretical macroeconomics, the economics of conflict and defence, and the history of economic thought, and has led him to publish in international journals (<em>Economic Theory<\/em>, <em>Annals of Economics and Statistics<\/em>, <em>The European Journal of the History of Economic Thought<\/em>,\u2026).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">He has also taken part in numerous conferences and organised two scientific events on the subject of conflict and defence, one of which, held in 2018 at the \u00c9cole Militaire, focused on the First World War.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Recent publications by Maxime Menuet on the economics of defence and conflict:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/ecodef-ihedn.fr\/en\/economie-de-defense-problematiques-contemporaines-la-chaire-au-centre-du-numero-dete-de-la-rdn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00abHow do you put an end to a war of attrition? Some lessons from theoretical models\u00bb.\u00bb<\/a>, <strong>National Defence Review<\/strong>, 832, 125-130, Summer 2020.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The<strong> theoretical models based on games<\/strong> can provide valuable insights into the <strong>mechanisms specific to wars of attrition<\/strong>. It is still very difficult to estimate the likely duration, which is why it is even more important to have a clear idea of how long it is likely to last. <strong>information <\/strong>to reduce uncertainties and draw conclusions to put an end to the conflict.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u00abShould we destroy the enemies of our adversaries? Villieu). <strong>Revue Fran\u00e7aise d'\u00c9conomie, <\/strong>34(3), 55-81<em>, <\/em>2019<em>.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In this article published in the <strong>Revue Fran\u00e7aise d'\u00c9conomie <\/strong>in 2019, the authors look at the question: \u00abWhy don't politicians solve social problems?\u00bb One reason may be that <strong>these problems are difficult to solve<\/strong>, or that <strong>politicians are incompetent<\/strong>. But there is another reason: in a representative democracy, competent politicians may have an incentive not to solve problems in order to retain an electoral advantage. Standard models of career concerns show that<strong> reputational strengths<\/strong> can, to a certain extent, <strong>encourage politicians to solve problems<\/strong>. But if politicians' careers also depend on the residual problems they are able to solve competently, the reforms they implement will result from the trade-off between reputation and the need to keep enemies alive. In addition, politicians will be led to give priority to solving problems for which they are less qualified, in order to destroy the comparative advantage of their opponents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cairn.info\/revue-francaise-d-economie-2019-3-page-3.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00abEconomics of conflict: history, methodology and research issues\u00bb<\/a> (with P.
