Friederike Richter, a researcher associated with the Chair, co-directed a study by the Institut de recherche strat\u00e9gique de l'\u00c9cole militaire (IRSEM) on defence cooperation. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Camille Morel<\/strong> and Friederike Richter<\/strong> have co-led an IRSEM study entitled \u00abDefence cooperation in the 21st century\u00bb, which will be published in October 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This study focuses on different forms of defence cooperation in the 21st century and examines their legitimacy and effectiveness, while taking into account the different situations in which they operate. regional specificities<\/a> of the cases analysed. It proposes a typology of current forms of cooperation according to i) their level of cooperation (bi-, mini- or multilateral), ii) their objectives (specific or general), iii) their duration (transitory or permanent), iv) their field (linked to operational aspects or investments), and v) their framework (institutionalised or not). Given the variety of forms of cooperation, this study argues that it is necessary to examine their objectives: do states cooperate to ensure greater legitimacy or greater efficiency? Is it possible to combine the two? If so, what types and formats of cooperation should be favoured to achieve both effectiveness and legitimacy? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
