Organised from 20 to 24 June by the Defence & Aerospace Chair\u00ab<\/a> for Science Po Bordeaux, the 6th Defence & Space Summer School<\/a> invited Jean Belin<\/strong> to present the defence space economy and industry<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n

The aim of this presentation was to analyse the economic models of the space industry, its specific features, particularly in terms of financing, and the role of the European Space Agency. its links with defence<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Jean Belin's presentation was based on the observation that space is a an essential environment for armies<\/strong>, Access to it is increasingly contested. It has also become a key factor in the functioning of our economies and societies. In recent years, we have seen a major shift in the space business model. The size of the commercial market is strong growth<\/strong>, competition, both between countries and between companies, is greater and more intense. new methods and sources of financing<\/strong> complement public funding. Alongside the traditional players, new players in the commercial space are developing with a new approach, which is changing risk-taking and the incentive to innovate. Because of its influence on costs and capacity for innovation, the organisation of the sector has become a major concern for the space powers. The links between public and private players in the field, the type of contracts, competition on the market, the complementarities to be found between the technologies developed or the management of externalities such as space debris remain key issues. economic themes that are still under-researched<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
