<\/a><\/p>\nJosselin Droff<\/strong> and Julien Malizard<\/strong> publish the article \u00abThe price of aeronautical sovereignty in Europe: an economic approach\u00bb<\/a><\/strong> in the special issue n\u00b011 of the Revue D\u00e9fense Nationale (RDN)<\/a> published to coincide with the 2023 Paris Air Show.<\/p>\n Josselin Droff and Julien Malizard's analysis shows that :<\/p>\n The authors examine the different acquisition strategies<\/strong> in the light of this trilemma. For future-generation aircraft, the preferred strategy is therefore cooperation within the framework of major aeronautical programmes<\/strong> such as the Future Air Combat System (SCAF) or its competitor, the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP).<\/p>\n This strategy offers hope, particularly if the economies of scale<\/strong> and learning<\/strong> are effective, but there are also concerns about the sharing of industrial tasks and the intellectual property of the technologies used.<\/p>\n However, in relation to the trilemma, comparison with other acquisition strategies indicates that cooperation can work as long as the relative loss of sovereignty and economic spin-offs is offset<\/strong> sufficiently high unit purchasing costs.<\/p>\n For future programmes, two success factors<\/strong> are identified: the application of best athlete\u00ab criteria\u00bb<\/strong>, to guarantee industrial efficiency, and the\u2019identification of a credible business model<\/strong> between domestic orders and export contracts, ensuring the long-term viability of the aerospace companies concerned thanks to a sufficiently high volume of production.<\/p>\n\n
