Held from 29 June to 2 July 2023 at the Stockholm international peace research institute (SIPRI)<\/a>, in partnership with Swedish defence research agency (FOI)<\/a>, the 26th<\/sup>International conference on economics and security (ICES 2023)<\/a> brought together some fifty specialists from the United States, Canada, Brazil and Europe (France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, etc.).<\/p>\n

For over 20 years, this annual international conference<\/strong> provides an opportunity for economists, political scientists and researchers from other disciplines from all over the world to present their work in the field of the defence, security and peace economics<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Researchers from the Chair have been taking part in this event for several years, which provides an opportunity to cover various research themes in defence and security economics, including issues relating to data<\/strong>, the the fight against terrorist organisations<\/strong>, l\u2019defence innovation<\/strong>, the problems of\u2019European defence<\/strong> or the industrial issues<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Jade Guiberteau<\/strong> presented work done with Josselin Droff<\/strong> and Julien Malizard<\/strong> entitled \u00abBuilding military ships in Europe: measuring the influence of strategic procurement on the performance of the naval defence industry\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Based on a original database<\/strong>, This work focuses on production time for large surface buildings<\/strong> in service in 2022 in eight European countries (France, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Denmark and Norway).<\/p>\n

Indeed, the building production time<\/strong> is a major capacity indicator<\/strong> in a context of political will to speed up production<\/strong> (competition between major naval powers, protection of critical infrastructures at sea and under the sea, the fight against maritime piracy, etc.).<\/p>\n

Econometric analysis highlights the existence of\u2019learning effects<\/strong>. Furthermore, considering the\u2019origin of on-board sub-systems <\/strong>(national production, European or American imports and European cooperation), we can see that equipment from European imports reduces production time, an important factor in European industrial strategy.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
