Based on the analytical framework of the <strong>\u00absmile curve\u00bb,<\/strong> The study compares <strong>four major fighter aircraft programmes<\/strong> : the F-35 Lightning II, the Eurofighter Typhoon, the Rafale and the Gripen.<\/li>\r\n<li>Based on an analysis of around 1,000 suppliers, the study highlights several models of strategic autonomy. The <strong>Rafale <\/strong>is characterised by a strong <strong>national industrial control<\/strong>, but remains heavily dependent on exports. The\u2019<strong>Eurofighter<\/strong> represents a form of\u2019<strong>collective European autonomy<\/strong>, which requires complex coordination between partners. The<strong> F-35<\/strong> is based on a <strong>globalised supply chain<\/strong> dominated by the <strong>US companies<\/strong> and backed by a vast domestic market. Finally, the <strong>Gripen<\/strong> illustrates the constraints faced by smaller states, characterised by a <strong>low proportion of domestic suppliers<\/strong> and a heavy reliance on external markets.<\/li>\r\n<li>The findings highlight that strategic autonomy is not a binary situation, but a continuum of trade-offs between sovereignty, industrial efficiency, market access and international cooperation.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ecodef-ihedn.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/BRNO-2026-3-scaled.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" (max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>Furthermore, <strong>Alexandre Giorgi<\/strong>, a PhD student and research associate at the Chair, gave a presentation on European defence cooperation, entitled <strong>\u00abAll in, each apart: arms cooperation, portfolio logic and the limits of financial incentives amongst the LoI-6 states, 1990\u20132025\u00bb<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>His work examines the dynamics of cooperation between the major European arms-producing states and highlights the limitations of financial incentive mechanisms when they come up against national priorities regarding defence capabilities and industrial capacity.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>The Chair\u2019s participation in this scientific event demonstrates its commitment to international academic debates on the economic and industrial challenges facing the defence sector, as well as its contribution to the discussion on the future of
