
Innovation in Defence
La Chair in Defence Economics organised the Research, Innovation and Defence conference, this Wednesday 20 March 2019 to the’National Assembly. The event brought together nearly 200 people, around two round tables for quality exchanges on innovation in Defence.
The MP Didier Baichère gave a keynote speech underlining the importance of the’importance of the theme the conference for the Ministry of the Armed Forces, as well as for the work it is carrying out as part of the Defence Industry Study Group.
Olivier Martin, The Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Chair in Defence Economics then presented the work of the Chair in terms of academic production but also’interface between the world of research, public authorities and the defence industry (for consult the scientific report from the pulpit, click here).
Then Emmanuel Chiva, In his introduction, the Director of AID (Defence Innovation Agency) set out the context of creation of AID but also the need to creating an environment conducive to innovation Defence, in involving all stakeholders, particularly those in the civilian sector. In this sense, the IDA must serve as a bridge to enable military personnel to retain a sense of belonging to the community. operational superiority.

Round table 1
La first round table, on the theme of« How can innovation be developed effectively? »was hosted by Jean Belin, holder of the Chair in Defence Economics, with the participation of the’IGA François Mestre (Direction Générale de l'Armement), Stéphane Cueille (Safran), François Chopard (Starburst), Emmanuel Sabonnadière (French Atomic Energy Commission).
A speech by Pierre Delsaux (European Union) presented the challenges facing the European Union in the building tomorrow's defence. In particular, he addressed the issue of cost of «non-Defence Europe» and stressed the importance of European cooperation to deal with challenges of tomorrow in the Defence of Europe, in particular thanks to new budgetary resources from 2020.
Round table 2
La second round table, dedicated to « How can innovation be used effectively in the Defence system? »was hosted by Valérie Mérindol, professor at Paris Business School, with the participation of General Philippe Hirtzig (EMA), the’IGA François Pintart (DGA), Eric Papin (naval Group) and Dominique Levent (Renault Group).
Florence Parly, Minister for the Armed Forces closed the event by presenting the Defence Economics Prize à François-Xavier Meunier, for his doctoral thesis in economics entitled: « Dual technological innovation: an analysis in terms of influence and coherence« .
