Josselin Droff and Julien Malizard have just published a article in the Revue Française d'Économie.

The article is entitled «Who bears the burden? The costs of defence production in Europe».». It discusses the Breakdown of the cost of security in the European Union. The aim is to propose a method for accurately measure the distribution of the burden of collective defence by comparing different sizes These include total defence budgets, as well as spending on equipment, R&D and the number of troops deployed. In addition to the static aspect, i.e. the relative contribution of countries at a given point in time (the photograph), the proposed method also makes it possible to analyse the dynamics of countries' contributions over time (the film). The analysis shows the little European coordination in terms of the distribution of defence production costs, with a very strong heterogeneity in terms of managing the «burden».

The article can be found in a special issue devoted to the economics of conflict.
