Sale of Rafales to Indonesia: Julien Malizard speaks out in Marianne

Julien Malizard, deputy holder of the Chair, was asked by the weekly magazine Marianne to comment on the signature by Indonesia an order for 42 Rafale fighter jets.

A new success for the Dassault Rafale: Florence Parly, the French Minister for the Armed Forces, announced on Thursday 10 February that the Indonesia orders 42 combat aircraft.

The Indonesian government also announced its intention to acquire two Scorpene submarines from Naval Group, a few months after the termination of the australian contract.

Julien Malizard, the Chair's deputy holder, has been approached by Marianne to comment on the signing of this new contract, which is part of an upward trend in this region of the world with «a figure which has doubled for the period 2011-2020 to reach €3.438 billion».».

He explains Indonesia's decision to turn to French equipment by its strategic positioning in a tense geopolitical context.
