Since the attacks in France, the French seem increasingly convinced of the need for defence and have a good image of the armed forces. 81% of French people would like to see the defence budget maintained or increased, and 66% believe that the current security situation calls for an additional budgetary effort.
Apart from the need for context, the study, led by the Cercle des économistes and the first results of which will be available in March, should show that investment in the defence sector is beneficial to the national economy. These economic benefits are more long-term than political ones.
The aim of this seminar, organised 2 months before a presidential election, is to give the general public a clear understanding of the economic challenges facing the defence sector.
