Organised on 22 March 2017 by our Chair in Defence Economics and the Circle of Economists, With 2 months to go before the presidential election, the aim of this seminar was to give the general public a clear understanding of the economic challenges facing the defence sector.
Since the attacks in France, the French seem increasingly convinced of the need for defence and have a good image of the armed forces. Thus, 81% of French people want the defence budget to be maintained or increased, and 66% think that the current security situation calls for an additional budgetary effort.
