Economics, Security and Politics« study day, 23 May 2019, École Militaire

La Chair of Defence Economics - IHEDN and the’Strategic Research Institute of the École Militaire (IRSEM) are organising a study day on the theme of «Economy, Security and Politics».
Throughout the day, the links between democracy, its construction, public opinion and military action or conflict will be explored.
We will focus mainly on the relationship between citizenship and military actions. The term «citizenship» here encompasses elements linked to public opinion and the rise of nationalism or populism in modern societies.
Contributions on how the’public opinion (via twitter for example) shapes military interventions, defence or international policy (e.g. defence spending, arms trade) will be addressed. In addition, the the role of conflict - wars, military interventions, civil conflicts - on the popularity of the government or the army will also be explored.
