This chapter not only gives the trend in world military spending for 2015 on the basis of the well-known SIPRI data, the ranking of spending States and information on spending at regional level, but also relates this spending to alliances and groups of States likely to clash. On the basis of other sources of information (EDA and NATO data), it provides an in-depth study of spending by European countries and NATO members. It also endeavours to provide information on spending by category (R&D and equipment) and on spending in France, and provides essential benchmarks that are valid for early 2016.
