Speech by Julien Malizard on the challenges facing French arms exports to the Middle East

Julien Malizard, Deputy Chair, spoke on the subject of French arms exports to the Middle East at a conference organised by the Jeunes IHEDN.

Julien Malizard took part in a conference organised on 22 November at the École Militaire (Paris) by the Young IHEDN. Led by the Middle East & Arab World and Defence Industry committees, the event focused on French arms sales in the Middle East.

This conference also gave the floor to lieutenant-colonel Cédric Berthome, Head of the North PMO Office at the French Ministry of Defence's Directorate General for Armaments (DGA), as well as François Mattens, Director of Public Affairs and Innovation at GICAT.

During his speech, Julien Malizard presented the specific features of the defence industry, and in particular the economic model of the french defence industry, The Defence Technological and Industrial Base (DTIB) is complete and of a high standard. pillar of strategic autonomy. Nevertheless, as the domestic market is too small to support the entire DTIB, it is necessary to export and thus protect French defence companies. This export policy, which is controlled by the executive, represents not only an economic issue, but also a strategic one, as it enables the creation and development of alliances and partnerships in an increasingly competitive market.

France's defence export policy will be the central theme of the Chair's annual conference on 15 December at the École Militaire. To find out more, click here here.
