Ukraine: Julien Malizard on BFM TV

Julien Malizard answers questions from Nelson Getten (BFM TV)

Julien Malizard, Deputy Chairholder, was one of the experts interviewed by Nelson Getten as part of the investigation carried out for BFM TV on the trend towards rearmament following the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine.

A new arms race is taking shape, particularly in the West, where announcements of increased defence budgets have been multiplying since 24 February and Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Julien Malizard stressed two points:

  • Weapons can lead to security by stabilising conflict situations
  • Defence generates economic spinoffs through jobs and can also increase security, which is beneficial for economic prosperity.
