The Chaire Économie de Défense and IRSEM jointly organised a study day on the theme of «Economics, Security and Politics». The day was particularly rich in terms of both the quality of the presentations and the discussions that took place. A thirty or so people were present on the day.

Élie Baranets (IRSEM, Ecole Polytechnique), presented his book « How to lose a war - A theory of democratic circumvention »published by CNRS.
And then.., Stergios Skaperdas (University of California, Irvine) presented his research into the link between military intervention and civil conflict. Last but not least, Alessandro Riboni (École Polytechnique, CREST) discussed the links between war, the State's ability to levy taxes and the construction of national identity.
Margit Bussman (University of Greifswald) gave a presentation at the beginning of the afternoon on her research into the question - applied to France - of the relationship between military intervention and economic problems. Precisely if the latter could be an explanation of the former: she found an absence of causality.

Béatrice Boulu-Reshef (University Paris 1, CES) presented a study in experimental economics on the importance of social distance between the members of a group (or a society) with regard to the presence of conflicts within the group itself or with an outside group.
To conclude this study day, Marion Mercier (University Paris Dauphine, LEDa) presented his work on the effect of migration on conflicts in the countries of departure.
