Le Summer issue of RDN, under the direction of Julien Malizard, Deputy Chairholder, and Benoît Rademacher, Director of the Armaments and Defence Economics Department at the European Defence Agency.’IRSEM, is now available in pre-order.

«The health crisis linked to the Covid-19 epidemic was not on the agenda when we were preparing this issue of the magazine. RDN. However, it also reveals the contemporary issues in defence economics research.
In fact, the economic crisis that has followed this health crisis will undoubtedly involve some difficult budgetary choices. It is also bringing back into focus the notion of industrial sovereignty, the question of cooperation at European level, and the question of the effect of defence spending on the economy, as a possible tool for recovery. It also reveals the very strong interplay between technologies for civil and military use, which shapes de facto the defence industrial landscape, and represents both an opportunity and a threat for the players involved.
In this unprecedented context, defence economics research is more necessary than ever to inform public decision-making, which has to take account of a complexity that is increasing over time.
The ambition of this issue is not to prejudge the economic consequences of this crisis, but to enlighten the reader on the contemporary issues of the defence economy, by providing useful insights into the challenges facing defence in the future.»
