Le 31 May 2018 will be available in bookshops on n°30 of Champs de Mars. Journal of War and Peace Studies, at Presses de Sciences Po.
This is a exceptional issue, in two volumes of over 760 pages, devoted to «strategic succession »It is open to all young researchers, doctoral students and young doctors working on defence and security issues. A fifty or so young researchers from around ten disciplines, working in France or abroad, contributed to this issue.

Julien Malizard and Josselin Droff , researchers at the Chair in Defence Economics are publishing an article in this special issue:

«Economic analysis of the sustainability of external operations« 

Summary: France is involved in a number of field operations which have cost more than a billion euros a year for almost ten years. An examination of the «additional costs of OPEX» illustrates the new methods of intervention. The purpose of this contribution is to examine, from an economic point of view, the operating cost borne by the armed forces. This cost is difficult to assess because it has no economic value in itself, so we have to resort to indirect analyses, via the consequences for people and equipment. We show that since 2010 serious shortcomings This could ultimately lead to a reduction in France's military potential. Several avenues for improvement are discussed in the conclusion.
