Study on jobs and skills in the defence industry in Brittany

Josselin Droff, a researcher at the Chair in Defence Economics at the IHEDN, took part in a study carried out by the CCI Bretagne on jobs and skills in the defence industry in Brittany.

In 2021, in Brittany, the sector will represent more than 27,000 jobs in nearly 400 companies. It is characterised by the breadth of its activities: naval, land, aeronautical, space and cyber security. 

Subject to changes in their environment (technological innovation, regulatory pressure, increasing cyber attacks, etc.) and in their market (opening up to foreign competition, difficulties in accessing the market, exports and duality encouraged, etc.). Breton defence companies, Whether they are prime contractors or suppliers, these companies are seeking to adapt and define new requirements in terms of the quality of their products and services. human resources. They also have expectations of the training landscape to respond.

The study provides to shed light on needs and developments in jobs and training Breton defence companies. More than 130 players (companies, training establishments, clusters) have contributed to the emergence of a shared diagnosis on human resources issues and recommendations and concrete courses of action to support the development of jobs in the defence industry.
